[Competing death risks].

open access: yesGaceta sanitaria, 2000
The death of an individual is not a repetitive event, so if a cause of death overtakes another cause in producing death, mortality rates from the overtaken cause decrease. This phenomenon is known as competing risks of death and it must be taken into account in any cause-specific mortality analysis.

Mechanically Deposited Wear‐Resistant Amorphous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanically deposited from glassy ribbons, the Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 amorphous coating formed a hard, continuous layer on AISI 1010 steel, tripling substrate hardness, lowering friction, and reducing wear. Despite its rough surface, it showed friction and wear behavior comparable to the crystalline alloy, highlighting its strong potential as a durable ...

Fabrication of Multifunctional FeSi Gyroid Lattice Composites via Additive Manufacturing and Polymer Infiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐step approach combining laser powder bed fusion of FeSi electrical steel with Bakelite infiltration enables the fabrication of multifunctional gyroid lattice composites. The resulting structures exhibit high strength, magnetic anisotropy, and complete polymer infiltration, demonstrating a simple and scalable route toward lightweight, mechanically

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Competing risks methods

open access: yes, 2007
Competing risks data usually arises in studies in which the failure of an individual may be classified into one of k (k > 1) mutually exclusive causes of failure. When competing risks are present, classical survival analysis techniques may not be appropriate to use.
