Better value chains: a matrix for competitive advantage
Journal of Business Strategy, 2014Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a new and comprehensive business strategy matrix which can be used to create competitive advantage for the value chain of every business unit of any firm. Design/methodology/approach – This paper reviews the key ...

Application of Community Matrix Theory to Plant Competition data
Oikos, 1992Ecologists have long described communities as 'Stable' or 'Unstable'. However, several ecological concepts need to be distinguished. A more rigorous definition of stability also allows the ecological application of mathematical stability concepts, especially Community Matrix theory (Pimm 1982, Westman 1986, Sutherland 1990): 'Stability': In the ...

The availability of modern technologies depends on the intellectual property licensing transactions. Patent pools, in particular, have emerged as important tools for organizing licensing activities. Traditionally, a patent pool aggregates the patents necessarily to practice a technology and avoids the transactional cost of separately negotiating ...

Theoretical study of the competition between cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesions
Physical Review E, 2009Adhesions between neighboring cells or between cells and their surrounding tissue/matrix play a crucial role in a wide range of biological processes. In order to investigate the competitive mechanisms between cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesions, we here develop a theoretical framework for multiple interacting cells lying on a planar matrix coated with ...

Matrix models for quantifying competitive intransitivity.
Oikos (Copenhagen, Denmark)Assessing the relative importance of intransitive competition networks in nature has been difficult because it requires a large number of pairwise competition experiments linked to observed field abundances of interacting species. Here we introduce metrics and statistical tests for evaluating the contribution of intransitivity to community structure ...

ASSESSING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF INDIAN COTTON PRODUCTION: A POLICY ANALYSIS MATRIX APPROACH
2002This paper uses a modified policy analysis matrix (PAM) approach to assess the efficiency of cotton production in five major producing states in India. The results indicate that cotton is not efficiently produced in the second-largest cotton-producing state in the country.

Automatic Non-negative Matrix Factorization Clustering with Competitive Sparseness Constraints
2014Determination of the appropriate number of clusters is a big challenge for the bi-clustering method of the non-negative matrix factorization (NMF). The conventional determination method may be to test a number of candidates and select the optimal one with the best clustering performance.
