Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Fixed points of contractive dominated mappings on a closed ball in an ordered quasi partial metric space

open access: yesLe Matematiche, 2015
In this paper, we obtain some fixed point theorems for dominated mappings satisfying locally contractive conditions on a closed ball in a left K-sequentially O-complete ordered quasi-partial metric space and in a right K-sequentially O-complete ordered ...

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

A unique common coupled fixed point theorem for four maps under Ψ-Φ contractive condition in partial metric spaces

open access: yesCubo, 2012
In this paper, we obtain a unique coupled common fixed point theorem for four maps in partial metric spaces.En este artículo obtenemos un teorema del punto fijo clásico acoplado único para cuatro aplicaciones en espacios métricos parciales.

Fixed points of two interpolative cyclic contractions in b-metric spaces

open access: yesHeliyon
The b-metric space happens to be one of the of most significant and non-trivial generalizations of metric spaces. In this paper, we introduce the concepts of Kannan type and Ćirić-Reich-Rus type cyclic contractions in b-metric spaces via interpolation ...

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Some Results on Related Fixed Point Theorems in Two $S$-Metric Spaces

open access: yesJournal of New Theory
In this study, by considering the technique in the theorem of Bollenbacher and Hicks, we obtain some related fixed point theorems involving two mappings on two related complete $S$-metric spaces with certain conditions.
