Elevated Blood Hemoglobin in Different Cavefish Populations Evolves Through Diverse Hemoglobin Gene Expression Patterns

Distinct populations of the cave‐dwelling fish, Astyanax mexicanus, have adapted to low oxygen through the upregulation of hemoglobin gene expression. This work demonstrates that diverse transcriptomic mechanisms have evolved for hypoxic adaptation via different hemoglobin genes.
