Validation of a spatial liver fluke model under field conditions in Ireland

open access: yesGeospatial Health, 2018
Fasciola hepatica is the causative agent of fasciolosis, a global disease of a wide range of mammals, particularly sheep and cattle. Liver fluke infection causes annual losses estimated at around €2.5 billion to livestock and food industries worldwide ...

Completely Positive Maps of the Cuntz Algebras

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 1997
The author constructs a covariant functor from the category whose objects are separable Hilbert spaces and whose morphisms are contractions, into the category whose objects are unital \(C^*\)-algebras and whose morphisms are completely positive, identity preserving maps.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Spectrahedral Shadows and Completely Positive Maps on Real Closed Fields

open access: yes, 2022
In this article we develop new methods for exhibiting convex semialgebraic sets that are not spectrahedral shadows. We characterize when the set of nonnegative polynomials with a given support is a spectrahedral shadow in terms of sums of squares.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Extremal marginals of an unbounded local completely positive and local completely contractive map

open access: yes, 2023
In this paper we consider the unbounded local completely positive and local completely contractive maps on maximal tensor product of unital locally C*-algebras and discuss on extremal points of certain convex subsets in the set of such maps.Comment: The ...

Optimizing Completely Positive Maps using Semidefinite Programming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Recently, a lot of attention has been devoted to finding physically realisable operations that realise as closely as possible certain desired transformations between quantum states, e.g. quantum cloning, teleportation, quantum gates, etc. Mathematically,

Does an intermittent dynamical system remain (weakly) chaotic after drilling in a hole?

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
Chaotic dynamical systems are often characterised by a positive Lyapunov exponent, which signifies an exponential rate of separation of nearby trajectories.
