Completing the neo‐Darwinian synthesis with an event criterion

Cladistics, 2007
AbstractWilli Hennig conceptualized the systematic character as an inherited transformation event whereas he operationalized it in terms of the similarity of objects. A causal evolutionary explanation underlies his conceptualization; however, the operational definition is denied that explication because similarity is an abstraction—the similarity of ...

A Semigroup Criterion for the Completeness of Scattering Systems

2001
Let H 0 be a radially symmetric function of the momentum − i∇ in \( {L^2}({\mathbb{R}^n}) \) and let H be a selfadjoint operator bounded from below. It is given a criterion for the asymptotic completeness of the scattering system {H 0, H} in terms of the semigroup difference \( {e^{ - sH}} - {e^{ - s{H_0}}}, \), where s > 0 is an arbitrary fixed value.

Corrections to "An Analytical Criterion for the Completeness of Riemannian Manifolds"

Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1974
The purpose of this present note is to call attention to the fact that our proof of the necessity part of the theorem contains a serious error, and that a correct proof of this part of the theorem is contained in an article by M. P. Gaffney [3]. (See also [1] and [2] for some earlier results which were tending in this direction.) Our proof of necessity

Complete CALM: A Coordination Criterion for Specifications

The CALM theorem connects coordination-freedom to monotonicity, but is tied to relational transducers and set-inclusion growth. We generalize it to arbitrary concurrent specifications. A specification maps execution histories to outcome sets under a declared refinement order; we prove it admits coordination-free implementation if and only if its ...

A Study of Harting’s Criterion for Complete Achromatism*

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1938
If the glasses of an infinitely thin doublet obey Hartmann’s three-constant dispersion formula, complete achromatism can be attained on condition that the λ0 values of the two glasses be identical. This condition seems to have been first pointed out by Harting, and it is termed Harting’s criterion herein.

ANALYTIC–SPECTRAL COMPLETION OF THE NYMAN–BEURLING–BAEZ–DUARTE CRITERION

Abstract. A self-contained analytic–spectral completion is presented. Coercivity isproved from a Mellin multiplier lower bound; spectral atom-freeness follows from Mellindiagonalization of logarithmic-ratio kernels. Discrete approximants converge strongly, andthe bridge theorem yields completeness of the analytic span in L2(0, 1).
