Time needed to achieve completeness and accuracy in bedside lung ultrasound reporting in Intensive Care Unit

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, 2010
Background The use of lung ultrasound (LUS) in ICU is increasing but ultrasonographic patterns of lung are often difficult to quantify by different operators.

Complete form of pachydermoperiostosis: A case report

open access: yesDermatology Online Journal, 2013
Pachydermoperiostosis is a primary form of hypertrophic osteoarthropathy, which presents with pachydermia, digital clubbing, and radiologic periostosis. Pachydermoperiostosis occurs owing to mutations of the gene encoding for 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15HPGD).

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Innovative but Difficult to Replicate: A Systematic Review of the Reporting Quality of Robotic and Conventional Upper-Limb Interventions in Stroke Rehabilitation Randomized Controlled Trials Using the TIDieR-Rehab Checklist

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Background: Upper-limb impairment is a major cause of post-stroke disability, limiting participation in meaningful activities. Robotic rehabilitation may address this by delivering high-dosage, task-oriented training while reducing clinician workload ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
