Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

An audit of completeness of Road to Health Booklet at a community health centre in South Africa

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Primary Health Care & Family Medicine
Background: For continuity and quality of care, accurate record-keeping is crucial. Complete care is facilitated by completing a child’s Road to Health Booklet (RTHB) as well as prompt interpretation and appropriate action.

Completeness of Tree Automata Completion

open access: yes, 2018
We consider rewriting of a regular language with a left-linear term rewriting system. We show a completeness theorem on equational tree automata completion stating that, if there exists a regular over-approximation of the set of reachable terms, then equational completion can compute it (or safely under-approximate it). A nice corollary of this theorem

On complete intersections [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales de l’institut Fourier, 2001
We construct closed complex submanifolds of dimension three in C^5 which are differential complete intersections but not holomorphic complete intersections. We also prove a homotopy principle concerning the removal of intersections of holomorphic mappings from Stein manifolds to complex Euclidean spaces C^d with certain closed complex subvarities of C ...

Ring completion of rig categories

open access: yes, 2009
We offer a solution to the long-standing problem of group completing within the context of rig categories (also known as bimonoidal categories). Given a rig category R we construct a natural additive group completion R' that retains the multiplicative ...
