Both operational environment and source code complexity influence the reliability of software systems. The complex modules of software systems often contain a disproportionate number of faults. However, if in a given environment, the complex modules are rarely exercised, then few of these faults are likely to become expressed as failures.

We study the evolution of complex dynamics in a model of a genetic regulatory network. The fitness is associated with the topological entropy in a class of piecewise linear equations, and the mutations are associated with changes in the logical structure of the network.

The Dynamics of Polycomb Complexes
2016Polycomb complexes are essential regulators of embryonic and adult stem cells, highly conserved from flies to mammals. Traditionally, their study was based on biochemical and genetic approaches. More recently, the development of novel technologies and the improvement and standardization of existing ones has allowed to address previously unexplored ...

On Reducing Numerical Complexity of Complex Robot Dynamics
Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, 1999This paper is concerned with reducing the level of numerical complexity in the modeling of complex robotic mechanisms, with the aim of calculating values of the modeled quantities in real time. In particular, the authors describe an algorithm for reducing the numerical complexity of analytical expressions which arise in typical dynamic models of ...

Complex dynamics in gelling systems
The European Physical Journal E, 2002We study the viscoelastic properties and the relaxation process in a gelling system by means of a minimal statistical-mechanics model. The model is based on percolation and bond fluctuation dynamics. The values for the critical exponents of the viscosity and elasticity agree with a part of the experimental observations and of the theoretical ...

Complexity in Wetting Dynamics
LangmuirThe spreading dynamics of a droplet of pure liquid deposited on a rigid, nonsoluble substrate has been extensively investigated. In a purely hydrodynamic description, the dynamics of the contact line is determined by a balance between the energy associated with the capillary driving force and the energy dissipated by the viscous shear in the liquid ...

Complex Dynamics and Empirical Evidence
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2004Standard macroeconomics, based on a reductionist approach centered on the representative agent, is badly equipped to explain the empirical evidence where heterogeneity and industrial dynamics are the rule. In this paper we show that a simple agent-based model of heterogeneous financially fragile agents is able to replicate a large number of scaling ...

Complex dynamics of cardiac arrhythmias
Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 1991In the case of a benign but very active cardiac arrhythmia often observed in healthy subjects, the behavior of the ventricular extrasystoles during long-term electrocardiographic recording was carefully scrutinized using the facilities of complex computerized programs of analysis.
