Complex organic molecules in strongly UV-irradiated gas. [PDF]

open access: yesAstron Astrophys, 2017
We investigate the presence of COMs in strongly UV-irradiated interstellar molecular gas. We have carried out a complete millimetre line survey using the IRAM30m telescope towards the edge of the Orion Bar photodissociation region (PDR), close to the H2 dissociation front, a position irradiated by a very intense far-UV (FUV) radiation field.

Astrochemical Pathways to Complex Organic and Prebiotic Molecules: Experimental Perspectives for In Situ Solid-State Studies

open access: yesLife, 2021
A deep understanding of the origin of life requires the physical, chemical, and biological study of prebiotic systems and the comprehension of the mechanisms underlying their evolutionary steps.

Photochemistry of interstellar ice forming complex organic molecules

open access: yesNature Reviews Chemistry
Astrochemistry is a well-established multidisciplinary field devoted to study molecules in space. While most astrochemists are oriented to observe molecules in the gas phase and reproduce their abundances by modeling the physical conditions of the medium, the microscopic dust particles wandering in the interstellar medium deserve the attention of a ...

A High-level Ab Initio Study of the Destruction of Methanimine under UV Radiation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The photodecomposition of methanimine (CH _2 NH) in the interstellar medium through several possible pathways is investigated by means of high-level multireference configuration interaction ab initio calculations.

The SKA as a Prebiotic Molecule Detector

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
One of the theories for the origin of life proposes that a significant fraction of prebiotic material could have arrived to Earth from outer space between 4.1 and 3.8 billion years ago.

UV and VUV Ionization of Organic Molecules, Clusters, and Complexes [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2009
The generation of organic particle beams is studied in combination with photoionization using uv radiation at 266 nm and vuv light at 157 nm. Single-photon ionization with pulsed vuv light turns out to be sensitive enough to detect various large neutral biomolecular complexes ranging from metal-amino acid complexes to nucleotide clusters and aggregates

A numerical approach to model chemistry of complex organic molecules in a protoplanetary disk

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2022
Multiphase astrochemical modeling presents a numerical challenge especially for the simulation of objects with the wide range of physical parameters such as protoplanetary disks.

The Detection of Hot Molecular Cores in the Small Magellanic Cloud

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We report the first detection of hot molecular cores in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), a nearby dwarf galaxy with 0.2 solar metallicity. We observed two high-mass young stellar objects in the SMC with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array ...
