Complex predication and adverbial modification in Wagiman
, 2021In many languages of northern Australia with coverb constructions, it is difficult to draw a distinction between predication and adverbial modification because coverbs appear to be both predicates and modifiers.

The complexity of testing predicate locks
Proceedings of the 1979 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data - SIGMOD '79, 1979The problem of testing predicates for satisfiability arises in several aspects of database systems such as the use of predicate locks in concurrency control [7]. Such problems are NP-complete even for "simple predicates", i.e. predicates consisting of Boolean combinations of comparisons between a field of a tuple and a constant.

Complex SQL Predicates as Quantifiers
IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 2014We propose a logical framework to analyze complex predicates (those involving a subquery) in SQL. We propose a new operator in the relational algebra for handling such predicates, and study its properties and how it combines with traditional relational operator.

Complex predicates present different levels of complexity at the syntactic and morphological levels crosslinguistically. The focus of this book is a subset of these constructions (causative and applicative) in three polysynthetic languages of the South Caucasian language family, in which the functional morphology associated with the argument structure ...

Abstract Auxiliaries are defined as a closed subclass of verbs which (a) form part of one complex predicate in combination with an uninflected verb from a large open class; (b) take all the person, number, gender, aspect, tense, mood, and modality specifications required; and (c) impart a modal or aspectual meaning to the construction ...

PropBank: Semantics of New Predicate Types
International Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation, 2014This research focuses on expanding PropBank, a corpus annotated with predicate argument structures, with new predicate types; namely, noun, adjective and complex predicates, such as Light Verb Constructions.

Complex predicates are multipredicational, but monoclausal structures. They have proven problematic for linguistic theory, particularly for proposed distinctions between the lexicon, morphology, and syntax. This volume focuses on the mapping from morphosyntactic structures to event structure, and in particular the constraints on possible mappings.

Decision Predicate Graphs: Enhancing Interpretability in Tree Ensembles
xAIUnderstanding the decisions of tree-based ensembles and their relationships is pivotal for machine learning model interpretation. Recent attempts to mitigate the human-in-the-loop interpretation challenge have explored the extraction of the decision ...

Abstract A striking fact about Mohawk polysynthetic observed in chapter l is that although it puts great emphasis on agreement and noun incorporation, certain other kinds of morphological structures arc relatively restricted. Mohawk does not have the diversity of “ complex predicate” constructions that some languages have, and, more ...
