Machine stability and dosimetry for ultra‐high dose rate FLASH radiotherapy human clinical protocol

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The FLASH effect, induced by ultra‐high dose rate (UHDR) irradiations, offers the potential to spare normal tissue while effectively treating tumors. It is important to achieve precise and accurate dose delivery and to establish reliable detector systems, particularly for clinical trials needed to help the clinical transfer of FLASH‐

Dehn surgery on complicated fibered knots in the 3-sphere [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Let K be a fibered knot in the 3-sphere. We show that if the monodromy of K is sufficiently complicated, then Dehn surgery on K cannot yield a lens space. Work of Yi Ni shows that if K has a lens space surgery then it is fibered. Combining this with our result we see that if K has a lens space surgery then it is fibered and the monodromy is relatively ...

Accounting for TLD response to CBCT protocols in external beam radiotherapy dose monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose LiF thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) are commonly used in radiation therapy to verify the delivered dose. Examples include dose verification for complicated treatment setups or cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). TLDs may be present for both the pre‐treatment imaging kilovoltage (kV) beam and the megavoltage (MV ...

Multiplicities of bifurcation sets of Pham singularities [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The local multiplicities of the Maxwell sets in the spaces of versal deformations of Pham holomorphic function singularities are calculated. A similar calculation for some other bifurcation sets (generalized Stokes' sets) defined by more complicated relations between the critical values is given.

AAPM Task Group No. 249.B—Essentials and guidelines for clinical medical physics residency training program

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract The establishment of guidelines and curriculum standards for medical physics residency training is a critical component of setting expectations and competencies for the profession. Since the last publication of these standards, residency training has become integrated into the eligibility criteria for most medical physics certification bodies.
