Using Photographs in Fishers’ Ecological Knowledge Research: A Review and Field Study on Small‐Scale Fishers’ Knowledge of Coastal Habitats in the Central Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Fishers interact daily with coastal environments, which generate a deep understanding of habitat characteristics, species associations and ecological change. Fishers’ ecological knowledge (FEK) is therefore a critical source of insight for marine science, offering observations that uniquely complement scientific data and, when incorporated ...

A roadmap to key traits of invasive Drosophilidae

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 1805-1829, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions have intensified in recent decades, mostly driven by international trade and travel, raising significant concerns, particularly regarding insect pests. Once non‐native species establish, they can disrupt natural ecosystem stability, undermine agroecosystem sustainability and cause substantial economic losses.

Hypofractionated preoperative radiotherapy for extremity soft tissue sarcoma: Are we racing ahead of the toxicity data?

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 15, 1 August 2026.
ABSTRACT For patients who have localized, high‐risk soft tissue sarcoma of the extremity, combined‐modality local treatment with radiation therapy (RT) and surgery offers high rates of local control. When RT is used, preoperative RT is recommended. The current standard of care dosing is 50 Gray (Gy) conventionally fractionated, delivered as 2 Gy per ...

Association Between Body Roundness Index and Periodontitis in Adults With Hypertension: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research, Volume 12, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives The association between body roundness index (BRI) and periodontitis among US adults with hypertension remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between BRI and periodontitis in this population. Material and Methods This cross‐sectional study included 4117 adults with hypertension from the National Health and

Enhancing Ground Beef Shelf Life Using Psidium guajava Leaf and Oliveria decumbens Essential Oils: Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, and Quality Preservation Effects Under Refrigeration

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Guava leaf essential oil (GL‐EO) and Oliveria decumbens essential oil (Od‐EO) improved the microbial and oxidative stability of refrigerated ground beef and helped extend its shelf life. GL‐EO better preserved odor and color, while the combined GL‐EO + Od‐EO treatment provided the best texture preservation and highest overall acceptability.

Epididymosome‐Supplemented Extender Induces Changes in Morpho‐Functional Traits and microRNA Levels of Post‐Thaw Sperm and Improves Embryo Developmental Potential

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 93, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT While molecular signature contributes to sperm quality and fertility potential, sperm may lost key molecules during cryopreservation. Since sperm cells are transcriptionally inert and rely on interactions with epididymosomes (epEVs) to acquire molecules, herein, we investigated the effects of the addition of epEVs to the cryopreservation ...

On the need for biocultural approaches to restoration

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 8, Page 2598-2609, August 2026.
Abstract Ecological restoration is gaining global momentum for climate mitigation, yet its prevailing approach, often rooted in Western technical science, frequently appears neutral while inadvertently reinforcing power imbalances and sidelining local knowledge.

3D Liver Fibrosis Models in Lab: A Novel Modality for Drug Screening

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 14, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Liver fibrosis is the common consequence of liver injury caused by a variety of chronic liver disorders. This condition leads to the development of more severe complications, particularly cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Despite abundant studies, the fundamental cell and molecular mechanisms of liver fibrosis are still unknown.

Activating Paper Applying Gelatin, Starch and Chitosan Coatings Loaded With O/W Emulsions Encapsulating Rutin, Carvacrol and α‐Tocopherol

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, Volume 39, Issue 8, Page 1061-1082, August 2026.
Emulsion type governed the microstructure and functionality of papers coated with biopolymers matrix loaded with hydrophobic bioactives encapsulated into O/W emulsions. Emulsified systems improved UV–Vis barrier and antioxidant activity, whereas gelatin coatings with conventional or Pickering emulsions provided the greatest mechanical reinforcement ...
