Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Synthesis, Characterization and Application of Disodium Tetraborate Cross-Linked Polyvinyl Alcohol Membranes for Pervaporation Dehydration of Ethylene Glycol

open access: yesActa Chimica Slovenica, 2018
Dehydration of ethylene glycol-water mixture was carried out in a laboratory pervaporation unit using a flat sheet membrane test cell. Polyvinyl alcohol-polyether sulfone (PVA-PES) composite membranes were synthesized and cross linked with two different ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

CCVD synthesis of carbon nanotubes from (Mg,Co,Mo)O catalysts: influence of the proportions of cobalt and molybdenum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Carbon nanotubes have been synthesised by catalytic chemical vapour deposition of a H2–CH4 mixture (18 mol% CH4) over (Mg,Co,Mo)O catalysts. The total amount of cobalt and molybdenum has been kept constant at 1 cat% and the proportion of molybdenum with ...

Bakery properties of composite mixtures of wheat and spelt flour

open access: yesНовые технологии, 2018
Baking properties of the composite mixtures of flour (wheatand spelt) have been assessed. It ‘s shown that the introduction of spelt flour into the mixture leads to an increase in the activity of amylolytic enzymes. A decrease in the mass fraction of raw gluten in all samples of dough with the introduction of selt flour is observed.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Approximation of the critical buckling factor for composite panels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This article is concerned with the approximation of the critical buckling factor for thin composite plates. A new method to improve the approximation of this critical factor is applied based on its behavior with respect to lamination parameters and ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
