Development and Flexural Performance of Lightweight Prefabricated Composite Beams Using High-Titanium Blast Furnace Slag Concrete

open access: yesBuildings
To promote the resource utilization of high-titanium blast furnace slag (HTBFS) and advance the development of lightweight prefabricated structures, this study developed a lightweight HTBFS concrete composite beam (HTC composite beam) by replacing ...

Flexural Properties of ECC-Concrete Composite Beam

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Rebar corrosion-induced durability issue is a major concern for bridges. The ECC cover was employed to prevent the intrusion of the corrosive agent. This paper studied the flexural behavior of ECC-concrete composite beam.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Frequency Domain Structural Synthesis Applied to Quasi-Static Crack Growth Modeling

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2009
Quasi-static crack growth in a composite beam was modeled using the structural synthesis technique along with a finite element model. The considered crack was an interface crack in the shear mode (i.e. mode II), which occurs frequently in the scarf joint

On‐Demand Activation of Thin Alginate Shell Encapsulated Volatile Liquid for Untethered Pneumatic Soft Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐changing liquids enable untethered pneumatic actuation in soft robotics but suffer from volatility and storage challenges. This work reports a simple method to encapsulate Novec 7000 within micron‐thin alginate shells via in situ injection and ionic crosslinking.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...
