Characteristics of Composite Insulation: Liquid-Impregnated Insulation

IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1986
A description is given of composite insulation, i. e. swelling of polymers by oil, oil streaming electrification of solid dielectrics , and V-t characteristics of LN2-impregnated insulation due to partial discharge. Swelling can be accelerated by ultrasonic wave irradiation. This reduces the saturation time.

Composite Hollow Core Insulators

2013
Composite hollow core insulators (referred to hereinafter as HCI for short) are used primarily as housings for various high-voltage equipment and apparatus. Owing to their conditions for use, they primarily have to withstand bending and compression loads and since a large number of the electrical equipment are gas insulated (with SF6 and SF6 gas ...

Epoxy composites for insulating properties

2015 IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference (EIC), 2015
Among materials used for electrical insulation in power electronics systems like IGBT, silicone elastomers used are considered as good candidates but are limited to 180–200°C. In this work, new thermoset/thermoplastic composites are investigated. The addition of some thermoplastics to epoxy amine systems can lead to system exhibiting phase separation ...

Composite Long Rod Insulators

2013
Composite long rod insulators are primarily used in suspension strings in straight-line supports and as tension strings in anchor towers and dead-end towers. They are also used in the jumpers or portals of outdoor substations. In some cases, composite long rods are used in the guys of wooden poles, and more rarely in the guys of steel towers.

The breakdown of composite insulation

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1972, 1972
It is frequently assumed that composite insulation, consisting for example, of a column of air in series with a solid dielectric, breaks down because a discharge in the weaker gaseous section acts like a thin conducting extension of the electrode.

Performance Analysis of Composite Insulators

2019 IEEE 3rd International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC), 2019
Composite insulators are widely used in high voltage transmission lines in coast and polluted areas due to excellent pollution flashover resistance, high strength and convenient installation and maintenance. While there are still various kinds of defects such as abnormal temperature rise, aging of materials even fracture in the existing composite ...

High Pollution Resistant Composite Insulators

2008 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2008
Composite insulators with silicone rubber housing have been applied since more than 40 years successfully under various climatic and pollution stress conditions. Since the service experience was not available in the introduction phase (Generation I and II) of this insulator technology in the early 1970ies, the life-expectation for composite insulators ...

Sound insulation of composite materials

Composites, 1974
Abstract The relationships between a material's physical properties and its sound insulation are discussed. The sound insulation of composite materials can be estimated provided that these physical properties are known. Although composites may be designed to give a better than average sound insulation performance for their mass, the sound insulation ...

Nacre-Inspired Hybrid Multilayer Insulation Composites

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
Superinsulation aerogels are characterized by low tensile strength and brittleness due to their high porosity. To address these limitations, multiscale architectural design inspired by nacre can be employed. This materials design approach offers a promising strategy for enhancing the mechanical strength of aerogel thermal insulation.

Metal/insulator composite selective absorbers

Solar Energy Materials, 1979
Abstract The optical properties of metal/insulator composite films have been examined, and their utilization as solar selective absorbers studied both theoretically and experimentally. Calculations have been made on the solar selective performance of graded composite films, demonstrating the performance and limitations to be expected for the general ...
