Non-conventional Composite Laminates – Clutch Laminates

American Society for Composites 2017, 2017
This paper presents the design and manufacturing of novel non-conventional woven composite laminates coined as clutch laminates. Carbon/epoxy clutch laminates are manufactured using prepreg slit tape in an automated fiber placement (AFP) machine. The AFP process allows tailoring the material architecture resulting in innovative structures without the ...

Tiled Composite Laminates

Journal of Composite Materials, 2010
This article describes our efforts to develop a meso-scale in-plane tiling technique for fiber-reinforced composite laminates. Such a technique expands the design space of the laminate, and the ability to tailor local laminate properties may provide a means, for example, to mitigate stress concentrations that arise in places such as along free edges ...

Composite Lamination Theory

2005
Abstract How Do We Design a Composite? Suppose we want to design and manufacture a composite with certain desired properties (i.e., functional requirements). The first thing we have to do is to design the composite that can satisfy the functional requirements (FRs), which are specified to satisfy customer needs.

Laminated Laser-Induced Graphene Composites

ACS Nano, 2020
Laser-induced graphene (LIG) is a porous graphene foam generated by lasing carbon-based precursors. Compositing LIG expands the spectrum of applications for which the material may be used. Techniques for scale-up of LIG composites will be essential as the technology approaches commercialization.

Nonlinear Deformation of Laminated Composites

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989
A method is presented for the nonlinear analysis of an element of a laminated composite using the Ramberg‐Osgood stress‐strain relation and considering transverse shear, degradation of elastic moduli due to fracture, and deformation theory of plasticity generalized for anisotropic inelastic material.

Analytical modelling of laminated composites

Composites Science and Technology, 1993
This paper presents a unique approach to the analysis of thick laminated composites by presenting two simple finite element methods. The first uses the predictor corrector technique to extend the simple Mindlin-type element to achieve greater accuracy, and the second develops a new least squares element which can approximate a C(1) continuous element ...

Laminate theory: macroanalyses of composite laminates

1993
It has been shown in chapter 2 that composite materials are manufactured as laminates, consequently in analysing the lamina, the primary aim is to obtain predictions of the average behaviour of the composite from the properties of the components. From the point of view of the mechanical properties of the composite lamina, the area of interest to the ...

Thermal Response in Laminated Composites

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1975
AbstractA semi‐infinite laminated composite in which the matrix and filler material are aligned parallel to the heat propagation direction is considered. At x = 0, there is applied a harmonic boundary heat flux of y‐periodicity conforming to the periodicity of the layered composite. The Fourier integral solution is decomposed into normal modes.

Dynamic characteristics of composite laminates

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1972
An exact solution for the vibration of elastic composite laminates in cylindrical bending is presented. Dispersion curves for multi-layer symmetrical and unsymmetrical laminates with materials possessing high and low degrees of anisotropy at various fiber orientations are compared with those obtained from an approximate shear deformation theory.
