Narayana numbers and Schur–Szegő composition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2009
AbstractIn the present paper we find a new interpretation of Narayana polynomials Nn(x) which are the generating polynomials for the Narayana numbers Nn,k=1nCnk−1Cnk where Cji stands for the usual binomial coefficient, i.e. Cji=j!i!(j−i)!. They count Dyck paths of length n and with exactly k peaks, see e.g. [R.A. Sulanke, The Narayana distribution, in:

Photocatalytic activity of SnO2–α-Fe2O3 composite mixtures: exploration of number of active sites, turnover number and turnover frequency

open access: yes, 2018
SnO2 and α-Fe2O3 were prepared by a sol–gel method and their composite (SnO2–α-Fe2O3) systems were synthesized by combining SnO2 with α-Fe2O3 in various weight percent ratios.

Finite Element Analysis on Inelastic Mechanical Behavior of Composite Beams Strengthened With Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Laminates Under Negative Moment

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
This work studies the improvement in the inelastic mechanical property of steel-concrete composite beams strengthened by carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates under a negative moment.

Nucleosomal composition at the centromere: a numbers game [PDF]

open access: yesChromosome Research, 2013
The Centromere is a unique chromosomal locus where the kinetochore is formed to mediate faithful chromosome partitioning, thus maintaining ploidy during cell division. Centromere identity is inherited via an epigenetic mechanism involving a histone H3 variant, called centromere protein A (CENP-A) which replaces H3 in centromeric chromatin.

Comparison of kinship‐identification methods for robust stock assessment using close‐kin mark–recapture data for Pacific bluefin tuna

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
In this study, we compared three methods for kinship identification using different algorithms in samples of wild Pacific bluefin tuna and generated genotyping data. The three methods resulted in different numbers of inferred kinship pairs for both generated and actual data. Particularly for the half‐sibling pairs, considerable number of false‐positive

A Simple Algorithm for Prime Factorization and Primality Testing

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2022
We propose a new simple and faster algorithm to factor numbers based on the nature of the prime numbers contained in such composite numbers. It is well known that every composite number has a unique representation as a product of prime numbers.

Highly Composite Numbers

open access: yes, 2023
The main result of this thesis is to show that there are only finitely many integers $n$ such that both $n$ and $d(n)$ are highly composite numbers at the same time, where $d(n)$ is the divisor function. Bertrand's postulate [4] is used many times throughout the thesis and allows us to write a proof that is as simple (and as short) as possible.

Dendritic cells steering antigen and leukocyte traffic in lymph nodes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dendritic cells are key players in the activation of T cells and their commitment to effector function. In this In a Nutshell Review, we will discuss how dendritic cells guide the trafficking of antigen and leukocytes in the lymph node, thus influencing T‐cell activation processes. Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in initiating and shaping the

Thermal Conductivity of Thermally-Isolating Polymeric and Composite Structural Support Materials Between 0.3 and 4 K

open access: yes, 2008
We present measurements of the low-temperature thermal conductivity of a number of polymeric and composite materials from 0.3 to 4 K. The materials measured are Vespel SP-1, Vespel SP-22, unfilled PEEK, 30% carbon fiber-filled PEEK, 30% glass-filled PEEK,

The dual nature of TDC – bridging dendritic and T cells in immunity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
TDC are hematopoietic cells combining dendritic and T cell features. They reach secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs) and peripheral organs (liver and lungs) after FLT3‐dependent development in the bone marrow and maturation in the thymus. TDC are activated and enriched in SLOs upon viral infection, suggesting that they might play unique immune roles, since
