On–Off Switchable Micromotors for Use in Steerable Microvehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Electrically controllable micromotors and microvehicles are developed by tuning the diffusion of the fuel. Self‐propelled micromotors using bubble propulsion show great promise for miniaturized devices with multiuse purposes such as cargo delivery and sensing. However, there is currently no method to electrically switch the micromotors on or off. Here,

Mechanical Behavior of a Solid Composite Propellant during Motor Ignition

open access: yes, 1995
In order to understand the behavior of composite propellants during motor ignition, a particular study about mechanical and ultimate properties of a Hydroxy-Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB) filled propellant under superimposed hydrostatic pressure was ...

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Influence of Polytetrafluorethylene on the Mechanical and Safety Properties of a Composite Modified Double Base Propellant

open access: yes, 2018
A novel Composite Modified Double Base (CMDB) propellant, formed by mechanically mixing aluminium/polytetrafluorethylene (Al/PTFE) powders, was prepared through a rolling process. A variety of tests, such as tensile properties, particle size analysis etc.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Low flux radiative ignition studies of ammonium perchlorate composite propellants

open access: yes, 2010
The vast majority of propellant ignition data has been collected and studied for heat fluxes in the typical, intentional ignition range. However, when a propellant contained within a rocket motor case is exposed to low fluxes in hazardous situations ...

Catalytic Nanoparticle Additives in the Combustion of AP/HTPB Composite Solid Propellant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Presented in this thesis is a study of the effects of nano-sized particles used as a catalytic additive in composite solid propellant. This study was done with titanium oxide (titania)-based particles, but much of the findings and theory are applicable ...
