DESIGN AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF STRENGTHENING OF BACKWATER TYPE HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES WITH COMPOSITE MATERIALS

open access: yesInternational Journal for Computational Civil and Structural Engineering
During long-term operation of hydraulic structures of sluices, retaining walls, abutments, there are non-design settlements, tilts, displacements, opening of inter-block construction joints, corrosion of working reinforcement, change in strength ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Winding Pattern Planning and Control of a Filament Winding Machine for Gas-Cylinders

open access: yesMachines, 2023
Filament winding reinforcement is often applied to fulfill high-pressure resistance and is lightweight for gas cylinder productions. This article analyzes the winding pattern and the corresponding characteristics for filament winding cylinders based on ...

Evaluation of omniweave reinforcement for composite fabrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Molded composites made from type-2 Morganite and/or boron are suitable for structural skins. Layered-in-depth omniweave construction yields higher in-plane strength characteristics than fiber-pitch angle construction, and strength and moduli data vary ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Study on microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-based amorphous particle-reinforced Al-based matrix composites

open access: yesAdvanced Composites Letters, 2020
Fe 52 Cr 15 Mo 26 C 3 B 1 Y 3 amorphous particle-reinforced pure aluminum (Al) matrix composite was prepared by powder metallurgy. The ferrum (Fe)-based amorphous particles prepared by atomization method have good amorphous structure, and the circular ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Braided composite rods to reinforce concrete subjected to aggressive environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The current work is concerned with the development of braided composite rods for civil engineering applications, namely for concrete internal reinforcement, as a steel substitute.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
