Microstructures and mechanical properties of tungsten wire/particle reinforced Zr57Nb5Al10Cu15.4Ni12.6 metallic glass matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Tungsten wire or particle reinforced metallic glass matrix composites are produced by infiltrating liquid Zr57Nb5Al10Cu15.4Ni12.6 (Vit106) into tungsten reinforcements at 1150 and at 1425 K.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Strength analysis of marine biaxial warp-knitted glass fabrics as composite laminations for ship material

open access: yesCurved and Layered Structures, 2023
Fiberglass-reinforced plastics (FRP) composite materials for ships that are widely used are marine-grade unsaturated polyester resin matrix and combimat fiber, a combination of marine-grade chopped strand mat (CSM) and woven roving (WR) fibers.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Fabrication Methods of Double Composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This study shows an example for the application of the medium pressure infiltration technique for production of double composite. Prefabricated composite wires were applied as reinforcement in AlSi12 matrix. The reinforcing composite wires contain Nextel

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Investigation on Seismic Behavior of Prestressed Steel Strand Composite Reinforced High-Strength Concrete Column

open access: yesBuildings
To study the seismic performance of high-strength concrete columns reinforced with prestressed steel strands, five column specimens were designed and tested with varying parameters, such as axial compression ratio (0.2, 0.35, 0.5) and diameter of steel ...

Influence of matrix toughness and interfacial strength on the toughness of epoxy composites with ductile steel fabric reinforcement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In the last decades, several studies have been performed on polymers reinforced with steel cords or wires. However, the diameter of these steel reinforcements was still quite large (200 micron and more).
