Experimental investigation of impact on composite laminates with protective layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents an experimental study of low energy impacts on composite plates covered with a protective layer. In service, composite materials are subjected to low energy impacts.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Post fire behaviour of innovative shear connection for composite steel-concrete structures

open access: yes, 2015
Steel-concrete composite structures are commonly used in buildings and bridges because it takes advantage of tensile strength of steel and compressive strength of concrete.

Damage localization map using electromechanical impedance spectrums and inverse distance weighting interpolation: Experimental validation on thin composite structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Piezoelectric sensors are widely used for structure health monitoring technique. In particular, electromechanical impedance techniques give simple and low-cost solutions for detecting damage in composite structures.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Future Design for Composite Airframe Structures

open access: yes, 2011
European space and aircraft industry demands for reduced development and operating costs. Structural weight reduction by exploitation of structural reserves in composite space and aerospace structures contributes to this aim, however, it requires ...

The Quantitative Inhibition Effects of Meteorological Drought on Sugarcane Growth Using the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer-CANEGRO Model in Lai-bin, China

open access: yesAgriculture
Sugarcane is the most important cash crop for producing sugar and the most promising high-yield bioenergy crop in China. Lai-bin is a major sugarcane growing and karst area in the Guangxi Province of China.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
