The occurrence of marine heatwaves (MHWs) and phytoplankton blooms is accelerating under climate change, yet the frequency and drivers of their compound co-occurrence remain poorly understood. Using coastal-optimized satellite observations from 2003–2020,

ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Shorter cyclone clusters modulate changes in European wintertime precipitation extremes
Wintertime extreme precipitation from cyclone clusters, i.e. consecutive cyclones moving across the same region, can lead to flooding and devastating socio-economic impacts in Europe.

ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Winter climate preconditioning of summer vegetation extremes in the Northern Hemisphere
The impact of the spring climate on the Northern Hemisphere’s summer vegetation activity and extremes has been extensively researched, but less attention has been devoted to whether and how the winter climate may additionally influence vegetation ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
