Three-Dimensional Superconductivity in the Infinite-Layer Compound Sr_{0.9}La_{0.1}CuO_2 in Entire Region below $T_c$

open access: yes, 2001
The infinite-layer compound ACuO$_{2}$ (A $=$ alkaline-earth ions) is regarded as the most suitable material for exploring the fundamental nature of the CuO$_2$ plane because it does not contain a charge-reservoir block, such as a rock-salt or a fluorite

X‐ray diffraction characterization of multilayer semiconductor structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
The analysis of double‐crystal x‐ray rocking curves of single‐crystal layered structures can give valuable information on layer strains, displacement of atoms from normal lattice sites (which reduces the structure factor), crystallographic ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Effects of Pre-Peening on Fatigue Performance of Gas-Nitrided SCM 440 Steel

open access: yesMetals
Gas nitriding was implemented in the current work at a constant nitrogen potential (KN) of 2.0 for 8 h to enhance the fatigue properties of SCM 440 steel, and the results were compared with those of the substrate tempered at the nitriding temperature ...

Modelling sublimation and atomic layer epitaxy in the presence of competing surface reconstructions

open access: yes, 2000
We present a solid-on-solid model of a binary AB compound, where atoms of type A in the topmost layer interact via anisotropic interactions different from those inside the bulk.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Formation of Cu(In1-xAlx)Se2 by selenising RF magnetron sputtered Cu/Al/In precursor layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The fabrication of Cu(In1-xAlx)Se2 using a multi-step process is reported. This process consists of depositing layers of Cu/Al/In, using magnetron sputtering, to form a metallic precursor layer, capping the stack with a layer of selenium, and then ...

Clinical characterization of 66 patients with congenital retinal disease due to the deep-intronic c.2991+1655A>G mutation in CEP290 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: To describe the phenotypic spectrum of retinal disease caused by the c.2991+1655A>G mutation in CEP290 and to compare disease severity between homozygous and compound heterozygous patients.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Frictional and structural characterization of ion-nitrided low and high chromium steels [PDF]

open access: yes
Low Cr steels AISI 41410, AISI 4340, and high Cr austenitic stainless steels AISI 304, AISI 316 were ion nitrided in a dc glow discharge plasma consisting of a 75 percent H2 - 25 percent N2 mixture.
