Bacterial decay in waterlogged archaeological compression wood varies with severity of compression wood

Holzforschung, 2022
Abstract Bacterial decay in compression wood (CW) tracheids of waterlogged archaeological wood (WAW) was investigated using light microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and TEM immunogold labeling.

Compressive fatigue in wood

Wood Science and Technology, 2000
An investigation of fatigue failure in wood subjected to load cycles in compression parallel to grain is presented. Small clear specimens of spruce are taken to failure in square wave formed fatigue loading at a stress excitation level corresponding to 80% of the short term strength. Four frequencies ranging from 0.01 Hz to 10 Hz are used.

Bearing stiffness in wood-to-wood compression joints

Engineering Structures, 2015
In post-tensioned timber frames beams and columns are connected by means of a tendon. The tendon presses the beams against the columns which leads to a stress situation where beams are loaded parallel to the grain and columns are loaded perpendicular to the grain.

Effective Thermal Conductivity of Compressed Woods

Heat Transfer: Volume 3, 2000
Abstract The total amount of lumbers consumed in Japan during a year, reaches to 1.1 billion cubic meter. However, 75 percent of them are imported. The resource of same 1.1 billion cubic meters is growing up every year in the domestic forest. This is due to the price difference between the domestic and imported lumbers.
