Multitarget error estimation and adaptivity in aerodynamic flow simulations

open access: yes, 2008
Important quantities in aerodynamic flow simulations are the aerodynamic force coefficients including the pressure induced and the viscous stress induced drag, lift and moment coefficients.

Unsteady Flow past a Flapping Aerofoil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
: Unsteady flow computations are presented for low speed Mach number flow past a combined pitching and plunging aerofoil. The Implicit Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver used for obtaining time-accurate solutions is based on finite volume nodal ...

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Compressible Flow Toolbox

open access: yes, 2006
The Compressible Flow Toolbox is primarily a MATLAB-language implementation of a set of algorithms that solve approximately 280 linear and nonlinear classical equations for compressible flow.

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Numerical investigation of recess casing treatments in axial flow fans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
T he casing treatment technique for the axial fan has never been more significant since its potential applications were recognized in gas turbines, tunnel ventilation and many other industrial applications where the axial fan would benefit from the ...

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Large Eddy Simulation of Compressible Parallel Jet Flow and Comparison of Four Subgrid-Scale Models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2019
Large eddy simulations of a three-dimensional (3D) compressible parallel jet flow at Mach number of 0.9 and Reynolds number 2000 are carried out. Four subgrid-scale (SGS) models, namely, the standard Smagorinsky model (SM), the selective mixed scale ...

Flow through and around groups of bodies

open access: yes, 2009
Fluid flows often consist of multiple bodies either filling most of the flow domain (for instance, porous media) or grouped in localized regions. Flow through localized groups containing many bodies has, hitherto, had little detailed study.
