Some solutions for a compressible isotropic elastic material

open access: yes, 2004
In this article we obtain closed-form solutions for the combined inflation and axial shear of an elastic tube in respect of the compressible isotropic elastic material introduced by Levinson and Burgess.

Influences of variations of the amount of compressed material on compressibility, tabletability and compactability

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Compression analysis is essential for the investigation of materials and processes in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical tablets. In the past, the influence of various process parameters on compression analysis has been investigated. The strength of these influences can significantly depend on the properties of the compressed material.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Super-elastic and fatigue resistant carbon material with lamellar multi-arch microstructure

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Low-density compressible materials often suffer from fatigue-induced failure or limited elasticity. Here, the authors create a hierarchical multi-arch carbon material that achieves high compressibility, superior elasticity and fatigue resistance ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Derivation of an adjoint consistent discontinuous Galerkin discretization of the compressible Euler equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Adjoint consistency - in addition to consistency - is the key requirement for discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretizations to be of optimal order in L2 as well as measured in terms of target functionals.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Rayleigh waves speed in transversely isotropic material

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2006
Rayleigh wave speed in transversely isotropic material is studied. A very simple technique is adopted to solve the secular equation. Speed in some transversely isotropic materials is calculated.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.
