Compression Pylon [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
A compression pylon for an aircraft with a wing-mounted engine, that does not cause supersonic airflow to occur within the fuselage-wing-pylon-nacelle channel is presented.

A Grammar Compression Algorithm based on Induced Suffix Sorting

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce GCIS, a grammar compression algorithm based on the induced suffix sorting algorithm SAIS, introduced by Nong et al. in 2009. Our solution builds on the factorization performed by SAIS during suffix sorting.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A New Way to Store Simple Text Files

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2020
In the era of ubiquitous digitization, the Internet of Things (IoT), information plays a vital role. All types of data are collected, and some of this data are stored as text files.

Diagnostic Clues in Pediatric Nutcracker Syndrome: From Two Clinical Cases to Current Literature Analysis

open access: yesChildren, 2022
Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) is a rare pediatric disease caused by left kidney vein compression. Besides the “Triade’s symptoms”, including hematuria, proteinuria, and flank pain, a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations has been reported.

Indexing compressed text [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the ACM, 2005
We design two compressed data structures for the full-text indexing problem that support efficient substring searches using roughly the space required for storing the text in compressed form. Our first compressed data structure retrieves the occ occurrences of a pattern P [1, p

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Lossy Compression with Near-uniform Encoder Outputs

open access: yes, 2016
It is well known that lossless compression of a discrete memoryless source with near-uniform encoder output is possible at a rate above its entropy if and only if the encoder is randomized.

Negative linear compressibility [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2015
While all materials reduce their intrinsic volume under hydrostatic (uniform) compression, a select few actually expand along one or more directions during this process of densification.
