Are non-slip socks really 'non-slip'? An analysis of slip resistance

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics, 2009
Background Non-slip socks have been suggested as a means of preventing accidental falls due to slips. This study compared the relative slip resistance of commercially available non-slip socks with other foot conditions, namely bare feet, compression ...

A Systematic Study of GelMA‐Carbopol Bioinks for High‐Fidelity Extrusion 3D Bioprinting at Physiological Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gonzalez Martinez and collaborators develop a strategy to formulate high performance GelMA‐based bioinks with low solids contents. The resulting bioinks enable 3D bioprinting at 37 °C of high‐fidelity structures with tunable mechanical properties that support high cell viability and function.

A Fully Defined GelMA‐Based Matrix Allows Fine Tuning of Tissue‐Relevant Biomechanical and Biochemical Cues for Organoid Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A fully defined GelMA‐based ECM platform integrates tunable tissue‐relevant stiffness with laminin–entactin biochemical supplementation to support mouse small intestinal organoid growth. Coordinated control of mechanical and biochemical cues promotes robust proliferation, budding morphogenesis, differentiation, and passaging, providing a reproducible ...

Synergistic Effect of Elastic Stockings to Maintain Volume Losses after Mechanical Lymphatic Therapy

open access: yesDermatology Research and Practice, 2014
The objective of the current study was to assess whether Venosan elastic stockings have a synergistic effect on the maintenance of results after Mechanical Lymphatic Therapy. Eleven patients with grade II lymphedema of the legs, regardless of cause, were

Vascularization of Human iPSC‐Derived Kidney Organoids Using Perfusion Culture, Pre‐Vascularized Collagen Scaffolds, and Decellularized Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An integrated perfusion‐based culture platform combining pre‐vascularized collagen scaffolds, stromal vascular fraction cells, and kidney decellularized extracellular matrix promotes vascularization of human iPSC‐derived kidney organoids. The platform provides evidence of interactions between vascular networks and glomerular‐like structures and enables

Ferroelectric Quantum Dots for Retinomorphic In‐Sensor Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work has provided a protocol for fabricating retinomorphic phototransistors by integrating ferroelectric ligands with quantum dots. The resulting device combines ferroelectricity, optical responsiveness, and low‐power operation to enable adaptive signal amplification and high recognition accuracy under low‐light conditions, while supporting ...

Management of Chronic Venous Leg Ulcers in Low Socioeconomic Settings Without Access to Four-Layer Compression Systems: A Practical Approach in Pakistan

open access: yesPakistan Journal of Medicine and Dentistry
Chronic venous leg ulcers (CVLUs) are a significant cause of morbidity, particularly in low-resource settings. Although multilayer compression therapy is the standard treatment, its use is limited by cost, availability, and the need for trained ...

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.
