Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Mechanical Properties and Deformation Behavior of Open-Cell Type Aluminum Foams with Structural Conditions and Alloy Composition

open access: yesMetals
Open-cell type aluminum foams with various structural conditions and alloy compositions were manufactured using the replication casting process. The porosity of the foams ranged from 55% to 62%, with pore sizes of 0.7~1.0 mm, 1.0~2.0 mm, and 2.8~3.4 mm ...

Micromechanics of composite laminate compression failure [PDF]

open access: yes
The Dugdale analysis for metals loaded in tension was adapted to model the failure of notched composite laminates loaded in compression. Compression testing details, MTS alignment verification, and equipment needs were resolved.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Conversion of engineering stresses to Cauchy stresses in tensile and compression tests of thermoplastic polymers

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2016
Thermoplastic polymers exhibit non-isochoric behaviour during tensile and compression testing as well as particular deformations like local necking (tension) or buckling (compression).

Stress-testing of the throat of a rocket's nozzle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Test motor in which high initial pressure can be reduced suddenly provides a method of testing stress effects in the throat of a rockets nozzle. Motors operating pressure is increased to aggravate tensile stresses in a submerged throat.

Compression-based SoC Test Infrastructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Test Data Compression techniques have been developed for reducing requirements in terms of Automatic Test Equipments. In this paper, we explore the benefits of using these techniques in the context of core-based SoCs. Test Data Compression is used to reduce the system test time by increasing the test parallelism of several cores without the expense of ...

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Computer modeling of compression for large cell spatially reinforced composite specimen enclosed in the ring for elimination of edge effects influence

open access: yesVestnik Samarskogo Gosudarstvennogo Tehničeskogo Universiteta. Seriâ: Fiziko-Matematičeskie Nauki, 2011
Article is dedicated to numerical simulation of compression test of the prismatic specimen of the spatially reinforced composite material in which the mechanisms leading to collapse of basic surfaces are weakened.
