Wegener Granulomatosis Causing Compressive Optic Neuropathy in a Child

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2009
Wegener granulomatosis is an uncommon illness in children that is known to cause myriad ophthalmic complications, but it is rarely a cause of compressive optic neuropathy. A 17-year-old Hispanic boy with Wegener granulomatosis developed unilateral loss of vision, pain, and proptosis of the left eye.

A Case of Nodular Fasciitis Causing Compressive Optic Neuropathy

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2014
A 16-year-old girl with worsening vision, new OD visual field deficits, and tumor in right orbital apex underwent biopsy and surgical excision. Orbital imaging revealed an apical tumor causing bony erosion. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of nodular fasciitis. This is a rare diagnosis, and one that can mimic a neoplastic process. To the authors'

Rapamycin for Treatment of Refractory Dysthyroid Compressive Optic Neuropathy

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2007
We report a patient with dysthyroid optic neuropathy refractory to steroids and orbital decompression treated with rapamycin, a fibroblast and T cell inhibitor. Symptoms, visual acuity, color plate testing, and visual fields improved. Aside from hypercholesterolemia, no complication related to this therapy was observed.

Compressive optic neuropathy secondary to an allergic reaction to hyaluronidase

Archivos de la Sociedad Española de Oftalmología (English Edition), 2019
A 58 year-old woman presented with severe chemosis and ophthalmoparesis on her left eye 8hours after uncomplicated cataract surgery under sub-tenon anaesthesia. Recovery of extrinsic motility was observed after corticosteroid and antihistamine treatment, but a non-haemorrhagic papillary oedema and a concentric defect of visual field were found.

Compressive and Infiltrative Optic Neuropathies

2008
In contrast to the meningiomas from intracranial extension or the ectopic orbital ones, primary optic nerve sheath meningiomas (ONSM) arise from the intraorbital optic nerve sheath and grow circumferentially around the optic nerve to result in an optic neuropathy by interfering with axonal transport and pial blood supply to the nerve. They constitute 1%

OCT and Compressive Optic Neuropathy

2016
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has provided new and important resources for quantification of retinal neural loss in many different optic nerve diseases including compressive optic neuropathies. As in other optic neuropathies OCT can be useful for diagnosis and follow-up of both optic nerve and chiasmal compressive diseases.

Optic neuropathy produced by a compressed mucocele in an onodi cell

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2003
To describe a patient with compressive optic neuropathy caused by a mucocele in an Onodi cell.Interventional case report.A 73-year-old man complained of sudden visual loss in the left eye 10 days after cataract surgery. Coronal computed tomography showed a homogeneous mass in an Onodi cell. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an oval-shaped lesion that

Compressive optic neuropathy caused by renal osteodystrophy

Journal of Neurosurgery, 2001
✓ Compressive optic neuropathy with acute or chronic vision loss has been associated with various skull base tumors, aneurysms, Graves disease, trauma, and, less commonly, fibrous dysplasia and osteopetrosis. The authors present a case of acute visual deterioration in a 25-year-old woman who had massive calvarial hypertrophy with optic canal stenosis ...

Quantitative comparison of disc rim color in optic nerve atrophy of compressive optic neuropathy and glaucomatous optic neuropathy

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 2016
The purpose was to investigate an objective and quantitative method to estimate the redness of the optic disc neuroretinal rim, and to determine the usefulness of this method to differentiate compressive optic neuropathy (CON) from glaucomatous optic neuropathy (GON).In our study there were 126 eyes: 40 with CON, 40 with normal tension glaucoma (NTG ...

Apical Optic Nerve Compression of Dysthyroid Optic Neuropathy on Computed Tomography

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1981
Computed assisted tomography (CT) of seven cases of dysthyroid optic neuropathy showed moderate to severe thickening of the extraocular muscles at the orbital apex, white CT of two control cases of dysthyroid orbitopathy without neuropathy showed minimal or fusiform thickening.
