Integrative analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients: a comprehensive approach

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study simultaneously investigated circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and exosomes from small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The elevated expression of JUNB and CXCR4 in CTCs was a poor prognostic factor for SCLC patients, whereas exosomal overexpression of these biomarkers revealed a high discrimination ability of patients from healthy individuals,

The accumulation of myeloid‐derived suppressor cells participates in abdominal infection‐induced tumor progression through the PD‐L1/PD‐1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 5, Page 1532-1545, May 2025.
This study explores how sepsis affects GC progression by creating an immunosuppressive environment. Our findings reveal that sepsis promotes immune dysregulation, enhancing tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting the PD‐1/PD‐L1 pathway with monoclonal antibodies shows potential for restoring immune function and improving outcomes in cancer patients ...

Unraveling epigenetic heterogeneity across gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas through a standardized analytical framework

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 1117-1131, April 2025.
This study shows that patients with gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas can be stratified into six distinct subtypes based on genome‐scale DNA methylation profiling. This stratification, achieved using a robust analytical framework, aligns with established tumor characteristics and holds potential to support prognostication.

The CDK12–BRCA1 signaling axis mediates dinaciclib‐associated radiosensitivity through p53‐mediated cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 1265-1280, April 2025.
Dinaciclib blocks CDK12 activity, leading to downregulation of BRCA1, and probably other proteins involved in homologous recombination, promoting nonhomologous end joining. In this scenario, the presence of ionising radiation triggers a p53‐dependent senescent response that yields increased radiosensitivity. Pan‐cyclin‐dependent‐kinase (CDK) inhibitors

First experience in employing a complex digital support system accompanied by personal assistance to improve aftercare in patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack – results of the PostStroke-Manager feasibility study

open access: yesScientific Reports
Stroke aftercare is widely acknowledged as crucial yet challenging. Digital tools offer a promising strategy to improve aftercare and, thus, patients’ quality of life.
