Animal Welfare, Agency, and Animal–Computer Interaction

open access: yesAnimals
Recent discussions in animal welfare have emphasised the importance of animal agency—the ability of animals to make choices and exert control over their environment in a way that aligns with their needs and preferences. In this paper, we discuss the importance of animal agency for welfare and examine how use of some types of animal–computer interaction

Tunable Thermoshrinkable Hydrogels for 4D Fabrication of Cell‐Seeded Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermoresponsive polymer with methacrylate groups for photo‐cross‐linking, based on polyethylene glycol, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate is synthetized to yield hydrogels that shrink upon temperature increase. The new polymer enables the fabrication of cell‐laden perfusable channels with diameters below 200 µm by combining ...

Machine Learning‐Enabled Polymer Discovery for Enhanced Pulmonary siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study provides an efficient approach to train a machine learning model by merging heterogeneous literature data to predict suitable polymers for siRNA delivery. Without the need for extensive laboratory synthesis, the machine learning enabled a virtual screening and successfully predicted a polymer that is validated for effective gene silencing in

Polarization‐Driven Molecular Alignment of Azopolymer for Dual‐Encrypted and Moiré Animation‐Based Anti‐Counterfeiting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multi‐layered anti‐counterfeiting platform is developed based on an azopolymer (PAzo) system. By leveraging the molecular orientation control of PAzo under linearly polarized light (LPL), encrypted patterns are fabricated that remain invisible under standard conditions and require polarized optical microscopy (POM) for decryption.
