Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Analytical control laws for interplanetary solar sail trajectories with constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
An indirect method is used to obtain an analytical control law for a spacecraft with a low-thrust propulsion system which is constituted by a solar sail coupled with a solar electric thruster. Constraints on the control inputs for such as the system need

Signatures of small-world and scale-free properties in large computer programs

open access: yes, 2003
A large computer program is typically divided into many hundreds or even thousands of smaller units, whose logical connections define a network in a natural way.

Self-organized Criticality in Living Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We suggest that ensembles of self-replicating entities such as biological systems naturally evolve into a self-organized critical state in which fluctuations, as well as waiting-times between phase transitions are distributed according to a 1/f power law.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

From Lord Coke to Internet Privacy: The Past, Present, and Future of Electronic Contracting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Contract law is applied countless times every day, in every manner of transaction large or small. Rarely are those transactions reflected in an agreement produced by a lawyer; quite the contrary, almost all contracts are concluded by persons with no ...

Statistical mechanics of money

open access: yes, 2000
In a closed economic system, money is conserved. Thus, by analogy with energy, the equilibrium probability distribution of money must follow the exponential Gibbs law characterized by an effective temperature equal to the average amount of money per ...

Sustainable bioplastics manufacturing from renewable sources

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are manufactured by using polymers from different bio‐based sources. These novel materials not only offer biodegradability but also possess various functional properties that make them suitable for diverse applications. Recent developments in the preparation of bioplastics are reported, highlighting the distinct properties of each type of ...

Coddling Spies: Why the Law Doesn’t Adequately Address Computer Spyware [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Consumers and businesses have attempted to use the common law of torts as well as federal statutes like the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Stored Wire and Electronic Communications and Transactional Records Act, and the Wiretap Act to address the ...

Extension of Haff's cooling law in granular flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The total energy E(t) in a fluid of inelastic particles is dissipated through inelastic collisions. When such systems are prepared in a homogeneous initial state and evolve undriven, E(t) decays initially as t^{-2} \aprox exp[ - 2\epsilon \tau] (known as
