Computer Communications and Networks

open access: yes, 1988
Computer communications is one of the most rapidly developing technologies and it is a subject with which everyone in the computer systems profession should be familiar. Computer communications and networks is an introduction to communications technology

A communications interface for computer networks

Proceedings of the ACM second symposium on Problems in the optimizations of data communications systems -, 1971
The scope of this paper is to describe the architecture of a communications line protocol for computer networks. Development and implementation details will be introduced where necessary to clarify the presentation. The need for an architecture to facilitate interprocessor communications has been a requirement to the computing industry for several ...

COMPUTING BY COMMUNICATION IN NETWORKS OF MEMBRANES

International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 2002
In this paper we consider networks of membranes which compute by communication only, using symport/antiport rules. Such rules are used both for communication with the environment and for direct communication among membranes. It turns out that, rather surprisingly, networks with a small number of membranes are computationally universal.

Communication Control in Computer Networks

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1979
Abstract The problem of controlling data exchange in computer networks with respect to real, in particular stochastic, interferences, and user's requirements, expressed by performance criteria, is discussed. First, the control problem is studied in the 2-station model by means of the concept of communication functions and protocols the latter being a

The Communications Computer Hardware of the MERIT Computer Network

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1972
Three Michigan universities are currently working on a project to evolve a network that will link their educational and research computing centers. This project requires the concurrent development of several interrelated technical activities, the most important of which are the network's specialized hardware, software for the network's communications ...

Computer networks and communications

Computer, 1974
A computer system including related peripherals, integrated as part of a network of one form or another, is becoming more and more a standard configuration being implemented by system designers today. Made possible through advances in communication technology and network concepts, these new configurations of telecommunications networks vary from simple
