The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Deep Learning–Based Dual-Pipeline Framework for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Classification With Explainable AI Integration

open access: yesApplied Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of blood cancer that rapidly impacts the hematologic system, particularly in children, requiring accurate and prompt diagnosis for better clinical outcomes. Manual inspection of peripheral blood smears remains

Deep Residual Transfer Ensemble Model for mRNA Gene-Expression-Based Breast Cancer

open access: yesIEEE Access
The last few years have witnessed exponential rise in breast cancer disease. The increasing mortality rate due to the lack of earlier diagnosis has alarmed healthcare industry to develop more efficient and scalable computer aided diagnosis (CAD) solution.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A game-theoretic sequential three-way decision using probabilistic rough sets and multiple levels of granularity

open access: yesDiscover Computing
The sequential three-way decision accepts additional information at each level and makes more accurate definite decisions with less uncertainty. This process can also be extended to two-way classification with the finer-grained information level. However,

EvoSMS: An Event-Oriented Simulation Method for Multi-Core Real-Time Scheduling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In this paper, an event-oriented simulation analysis approach was established for the schedulability analysis of multi-core embedded systems. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to introduce an event-oriented simulation strategy into ...
