The Science of Computer Science: Closing Statement [PDF]

open access: yesUbiquity, 2014
Where does computer science as an intellectual discipline fit in human discourse? Over a dozen contributors have looked at this question of identity from as many viewpoints. In this closing statement, we emphasize six themes running through these 16 commentaries and draw some conclusions that seem to be supported by the symposium.

Genomic Diversity and Clinical Variability in Pediatric Primary Cutaneous Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma: A Case Series

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (pcALCL) is a rare pediatric CD30‐positive T‐cell lymphoproliferative disorder with an excellent prognosis, but its genomic drivers are poorly defined. We report three children with skin‐limited disease demonstrating striking molecular heterogeneity, including NPM::ALK, NUP214::FRK, and a novel ...

The Combined Effect of Obesity and Contraceptive Use on Pulmonary Embolism in Adolescent Females Residing in the United States

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Combined oral contraceptive (COC) use in obese adult women dramatically increases the relative risk of developing a pulmonary embolism (PE). The risk of a PE in obese adolescent females taking contraceptives is currently unknown. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of body mass index (BMI) and contraceptive

Computer science

open access: yes, 2018
Every new technology brings new opportunity for crime, and information and communication technology (ICT) is no exception. This short article offers students of crime insights in the two main connections between ICT and criminology. On the one hand we show how ICT can be used as a tool, target, or location of crime.

Protocol to predict mechanical properties of multi-element ceramics using machine learning

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2022
Summary: Identifying and designing high-performance multi-element ceramics based on trial-and-error approaches are ineffective and expensive. Here, we present a machine-learning-accelerated method for prediction of mechanical properties of multi-element ...

Are Fertility Preservation Procedures Before Gonadotoxic Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Feasible and Safe in Very Young Children? A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fertility preservation (FP) is increasingly integrated into the care of pediatric patients exposed to gonadotoxic therapy or conditioning for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), yet perioperative data in infants and toddlers remain scarce.

Central Nervous System Neuroblastoma, FOXR2‐Activated: A Pooled Analysis of Published Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) neuroblastoma, FOXR2‐activated, is a recently recognized entity in the WHO CNS5 classification, defined by activation of the FOXR2 transcription factor and unique histopathological features. This review synthesizes available literature and pooled clinical data, providing insight into demographics ...
