Computer training and user support in higher education
Proceedings of the 30th annual ACM SIGUCCS conference on User services, 2002In this paper, we describe how a small staff of three can effectively train and support approximately 700 employees (faculty, staff and administrators) and 3,000 students in supported software applications (MS Office, AS/400, et al).

Computer User Groups: The Overlooked Source of Training
Proceedings of Petroleum Computer Conference, 1991Abstract Petroleum companies, recognizing the need for computer use, have invested millions of dollars in compíuter hardware, software, and training. While large productivity increases have been achieved through initial training (Phase One), even larger gains can be accomplished through the computer skill-building process called ...

Task-Relevant Sound and User Experience in Computer-Mediated Firefighter Training
Simulation & Gaming, 2012The authors added task-relevant sounds to a computer-mediated instructor in-the-loop virtual training for firefighter commanders in an attempt to raise the engagement and arousal of the users. Computer-mediated training for crew commanders should provide a sensory experience that is sufficiently intense to make the training viable and effective.

Aiding and Training Novice Computer Users Online with Executable Documentation
Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1986In this article we describe a concept of “executable documentation” and a computer program implementation of the idea. This concept and program are useful tools in the introduction of new users to computer systems. In addition, the method is cheap and readily extended by expert and novice computer users for codifying the results of their own learning ...

Computer user training and attitudes: a study of business undergraduates
Behaviour & Information Technology, 1993Abstract For many users, the first real encounter with a computer occurs when taking an introductory course to computers at a college. To the extent that these training courses impact user understanding and motivation, they are important determinants of the user attitudes towards computers and merit serious assessment. Using 327 business undergraduates

Influence of Computer User Training on Decision‐Making Risk Preferences
Management Research News, 1996Risk‐related attitudes are important in today's business environment because as organisations become flattened decisions are pushed down in the hierarchy and a greater percentage of the individuals in the organisation must become proficient decision makers [16].

Training End Users To Compute: Cognitive, Motivational And Social Issues
INFOR: Information Systems and Operational Research, 1987AbstractAlthough the contribution of effective training of users towards the success of enduse computing (EUG) has been acknowledged by both practitioners and researchers in MIS, very little research has been conducted in the area. Gonsequently, adequate guidelines do not exist for developing effective training procedures.

Computer-Based Subsystems for Training the Users of Computer Systems
IEEE Transactions on Human Factors in Electronics, 1967This paper examines the training problems generated by computer-based information systems, and it describes the role of the computer in solving these training problems. The design and development of a model for a computer-based instructional sub- system for a military information system is outlined.

Effectiveness of computer-based auditory training for adult users of cochlear implants
International Journal of Audiology, 2010Cochlear implantation is effective at restoring partial hearing to profoundly deaf adults, but not all patients receive equal benefit. The present study evaluated the effectiveness of a computer-based self-administered training package that was designed to improve speech perception among adults who had used cochlear implants for more than three years ...

Computer-Based Training for Deception Detection: What Users Want?
2004Training humans in detecting deception is as much a difficult and important problem as detecting deception itself. A computer-based deception detection training system, Agent99 Trainer, was built with a goal to train humans to understand deception and detect deception more accurately.
