Opportunities for and challenges of computerisation

open access: yesThe Lancet, 1998
Information technology offers many potential advantages over paper for the storage and retrieval of patients' data. Enthusiasts predict that soon all records will be stored and viewed on computer, but others are more sceptical. The failure of some computer-based records may be due to poor information design.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Assessing planning and set-shifting abilities in autism: Are experimenter-administered and computerised versions of tasks equivalent? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The performance of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) on classic measures of executive functioning may suggest that people with this disorder are impaired only when tasks are administered by an experimenter, but not when the same tasks are ...
