Detecting extirpation: A localized approach to a global problem

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1160-1174, July 2026.
The global biodiversity crisis stems from a cascading series of extirpations driving species toward extinction. Addressing this crisis requires methods for early detection of extinction at local scales, where communities can mobilize conservation efforts.

Together or separate? Families' perceptions of segregation in special education and inclusion in mainstream schools

open access: yesJournal of Research in Special Educational Needs, Volume 26, Issue 3, July 2026.

Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus: A persistent seed‐borne threat to cucurbits

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 189, Issue 1, July 2026.
Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) is a highly stable, seed‐borne tobamovirus that threatens global cucurbit production. Its efficient mechanical and seed transmission, long‐term environmental persistence, and the spread of Clade II CGMMV isolates drive its rapid dissemination and cause severe yield losses.

Genomic and Sex Contributions to Interindividual Variability in Pitavastatin Bioavailability

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 139, Issue 1, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim This study investigates pharmacogenetic determinants of pitavastatin disposition using a candidate‐gene approach. Methods In 48 healthy volunteers, 138 variants across 40 genes involved in drug metabolism and transport were analysed to assess their relationship with pitavastatin pharmacokinetics, alongside the influence of sex and ...

Tropical Bee Assemblage Diversity Decreases With Elevation While Body Size Increases

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 4, July 2026.
Photos of bee specimens collected in the Colombian Andes across a nearly 3000 m elevational cline. They are arranged to illustrate both the decline in richness with elevation and the increase in community average body size with elevation. ABSTRACT Elevation gradients are powerful drivers of changes in species composition, richness, and functional ...

Exploiting Emotional and Moral Knowledge for Moral Values Detection in Text

open access: yesExpert Systems, Volume 43, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Despite the remarkable success of language models, they still encounter difficulties in accurately performing tasks related to morality intelligence. Moral values vary across cultures and contexts, and are highly subjective. This work focuses on evaluating the ability of transformer models to assess morality in text by exploiting their ...
