Framework for X‐ray mirror surface shape fitting
The closed‐form expressions for elliptic cylinders, hyperbolic cylinders, ellipsoids, hyperboloids, and diaboloids used for X‐ray mirror surface shapes are summarized. Additionally, a four‐layer framework to fit the measured surface shape data in slope or height for convenient X‐ray mirror surface characterization is proposed. For accurate ...

We consider the boundary-value problem $$ displaylines{-(varphi _{p}(u'))' =varphi _{alpha }(u) +lambda varphi _{eta}(u) quadhbox{in }(0, 1) cr u(0) =u(1)=0, } $$ where $varphi _{p}(x)=left| x ight| ^{p-2}x$, $p,alpha, eta >1$ and $lambda in mathbb{R}^*$.

Resource windfalls and political sabotage: Evidence from 5.2 million political ads
Abstract We study the role of incentives in inducing sabotage in political contents, vis‐à‐vis natural resource windfalls. The latter induce plausibly exogenous increases in contests' stakes by extending opportunities for policy implementation or private gain upon winning and enhancing incumbent advantage.

Contested Compromise: Public Policy Reforms as Share Contests
ABSTRACT Public policy reforms often benefit certain societal groups while being costly for others. Both supporters and opponents of reforms can form lobby groups to influence the policy outcome in their preferred direction. This paper presents a simple two‐stage model of a public policy reform that results from the partial implementation of a policy ...

Trade costs, infrastructure, and dynamics in a global economy
Abstract This study develops a dynamic two‐country model with trade costs linked to international infrastructure stock. With variable markups and firm heterogeneity, the welfare impact of trade costs depends on firms' cost distribution. Governments engage in a dynamic public investment game, leading to multiple steady states. The dynamic equilibrium of

A suture in time: The ontogeny of cranial suture morphology in mammals
Mammal cranial sutures are important indicators of the biomechanical and developmental pressures acting upon the skull. Across three prominent sutures dividing the vault of the mammalian skull, divergent patterns emerge both taxonomically and developmentally.

ABSTRACT Transpiration restriction under high vapour pressure deficit (VPD), measured indoors with individual plants, increases water use efficiency (WUE). However, VPD is not the only factor driving transpiration, individual plants in a field rapidly become a canopy, and reports on the transpiration restriction versus WUE are scant.
