Silicomanganese and Ferromanganese Slags Treated with Concentrated Solar Energy

open access: yesProceedings, 2018
Solar energy when properly concentrated offers a great potential in high temperature applications as those required in metallurgical processes. Even when concentrated solar energy cannot compete with conventional metallurgical processes, it could find ...

Anaerobic Biological Treatment of High Concentration Wastewater

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2018
Granular sludge is the key to the efficient operation of the UASB reactor, which directly affects the treatment efficiency of the reactor. The ordinary flocculent sludge is lighter, and it is easy to be flushed out of the reactor under the action of the influent water flushing in the UASB reactor and the gas scouring generated by the anaerobic reaction

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

INFLUENCE OF HEAT TREATMENTS WITH CONCETRATED ENERGY SOURCES ON THE ALLOY STEELS MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

open access: yesNonconventional Technologies Review, 2017
The results presented in this paper are part of a larger project that includes the study of the heat treatment influence with concentrated sources on the microstructure and mechanical properties, when this are applied to the alloyed steels X210Cr10 and ...

A–C Estrogens as Potent and Selective Estrogen Receptor-Beta Agonists (SERBAs) to Enhance Memory Consolidation under Low-Estrogen Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Estrogen receptor-beta (ERβ) is a drug target for memory consolidation in postmenopausal women. Herein is reported a series of potent and selective ERβ agonists (SERBAs) with in vivo efficacy that are A–C estrogens, lacking the B and D estrogen rings ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Efficient Semiparametric Estimation of Quantile Treatment Effects [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents calculations of semiparametric efficiency bounds for quantile treatment effects parameters when selection to treatment is based on observable characteristics.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Full Sequence Bleaching with Dimethyldioxirane [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Research work to date has shown dimethyldioxirane to be a very powerful, yet highly selective oxidant. Dimethyldioxirane bleaching may become more important in the future with legislative restrictions on chlorine based bleaching agents as it contains no ...
