Treatment challenges in and outside a network setting: Head and neck cancers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a rare disease that can affect different sites and is characterized by variable incidence and 5-year survival rates across Europe.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Current advances in anaerobic digestion of highly concentrated dye effluent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Industry such as, textile, leather, olive mill, pulp and paper, petroleum refinery and palm oil mill generates colored effluent that needs proper treatment, and if possible, it can be reused as a process water.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

A prospective study of hair transplantation combined with concentrated growth factors for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia

open access: yesJournal of Dermatological Treatment
Background Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common form of hair loss, marked by progressive shedding and follicular miniaturization, with advanced stages leading to irreversible follicular loss.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Classification of Stabilometric Time-Series Using an Adaptive Fuzzy Inference Neural Network System

open access: yes, 2010
Stabilometry is a branch of medicine that studies balance-related human functions. The analysis of stabilometric-generated time series can be very useful to the diagnosis and treatment balance-related dysfunctions such as dizziness.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

A panoramic view of the virosphere in three wastewater treatment plants by integrating viral‐like particle‐concentrated and traditional non‐concentrated metagenomic approaches

open access: yesiMeta
Wastewater biotreatment systems harbor a rich diversity of microorganisms, and the effectiveness of biotreatment systems largely depends on the activity of these microorganisms. Specifically, viruses play a crucial role in altering microbial behavior and

Improving of the wear resistance of working parts agricultural machinery by the implementation of the effect of self-sharpening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The failure of the cutting elements of farm machinery is due to the blunting of cutting edges (increase of their radius) till the limit values. The most effective method for increasing the wear resistance of farm machinery is the realization of self ...
