Concentrating the Concentrate: Solutions for Concentrate Management
IDA Journal of Desalination and Water Reuse, 2009AbstractCurrently, membrane technologies are restricted in most communities because of water recovery and concentrate disposal limitations. Lower water recoveries mean inefficient use of scarce resources, and concentrate disposal generally requires some form of treatment to meet safe discharge regulations.

Aggregate Concentration, Market Concentration and Diversification
The Economic Journal, 1983Studies of business concentration have traditionally focused on two alternative levels of aggregation. Overall, or aggregate, concentration is concerned with the extent to which the macro-economy (or broad sectors thereof) is dominated by the largest firms: this is commonly measured by the share of aggregate activity accounted for by the largest ioo ...

Concentration, Price, and Critical Concentration Ratios
The Review of Economics and Statistics, 1981A potentially important parameter that has not yet been convincingly estimated is the critical concentration ratio. This paper attempts to estimate it in three types of market. The estimation of a critical concentration ratio, if one exists, seems of potentially great importance because of its implication for antitrust policy.

Practical concentrators attaining maximal concentration
Optics Letters, 1980A new class of radiation concentrators is described that achieve maximal concentration of radiation from a uniform source. Unlike ideal concentrators, which accept all radiation within a given acceptance angle and none outside, the new maximal concentration collectors may reject some radiation from within the nominal acceptance angle.

Concentrating on Concentration
The Journal of Portfolio Management, 2004Factor models seek to reduce the impact of spurious in-sample correlations on the estimation of a covariance matrix of security returns. Among U.S. equities, market value is concentrated in a small number of assets both across the market and within industry sectors. Over 50% of market value, for example, is captured by 1% of assets.

Proceedings of the 12th ACM SIGACT-SIGPLAN symposium on Principles of programming languages - POPL '85, 1985
This paper considers current solutions to the problem of representing multiple environments, and uses the results to develop a new model. The motivation is partly a consequence of the renewed interest in the more sophisticated forms of access and control [Sussman & Steele 1978], [Smith 1983]. [Friedman et al.

Institutions and concentration
Journal of Development Economics, 2006Abstract In a new dataset of 1.3 million firms from over 100 countries, I establish a number of regularities in cross-country differences in economic concentration. Concentration of sales and employment is substantially higher in smaller countries and in less-developed countries; these two factors alone explain roughly half the cross-country ...
