Comparison and anti-concentration bounds for maxima of Gaussian random vectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Slepian and Sudakov-Fernique type inequalities, which compare expectations of maxima of Gaussian random vectors under certain restrictions on the covariance matrices, play an important role in probability theory, especially in empirical process and ...

Concentration Inequalities for Smooth Random Fields [PDF]

open access: yesTheory of Probability & Its Applications, 2013
In this note we derive a sharp concentration inequality for the supremum of a smooth random field over a finite dimensional set. It is shown that this supremum can be bounded with high probability by the value of the field at some deterministic point plus an intrinsic dimension of the optimisation problem.

A Q‐Learning Algorithm to Solve the Two‐Player Zero‐Sum Game Problem for Nonlinear Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 566-581, March 2025.
A Q‐learning algorithm to solve the two‐player zero‐sum game problem for nonlinear systems. ABSTRACT This paper deals with the two‐player zero‐sum game problem, which is a bounded L2$$ {L}_2 $$‐gain robust control problem. Finding an analytical solution to the complex Hamilton‐Jacobi‐Issacs (HJI) equation is a challenging task.

On Probabilistic Convergence Rates of Symmetric Stochastic Bernstein Polynomials

open access: yesMathematics
This paper analyzes the exponential convergence properties of Symmetric Stochastic Bernstein Polynomials (SSBPs), a novel approximation framework that combines the deterministic precision of classical Bernstein polynomials (BPs) with the adaptive node ...

Catastrophic health expenditure and its inequality in rural China: based on longitudinal data from 2013 to 2018

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2023
Background Catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) is an important indicator of measuring health inequality. Previous studies mainly focused on specific vulnerable populations rather than a wider range of vulnerable areas through panel data. Rural China is

Relationship Between Household Socio-Economic Status and under-five Mortality in Rufiji DSS, Tanzania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Disparities in health outcomes between the poor and the better off are increasingly attracting attention from researchers and policy makers. However, policies aimed at reducing inequity need to be based on evidence of their nature, magnitude, and ...

Optimal Concentration Inequalities for Dynamical Systems [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2012
For dynamical systems modeled by a Young tower with exponential tails, we prove an exponential concentration inequality for all separately Lipschitz observables of n variables. When tails are polynomial, we prove polynomial concentration inequalities. Those inequalities are optimal. We give some applications of such inequalities to specific systems and

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Measurement and decomposition of education-related inequality in exclusive breastfeeding practice among Ethiopian mothers: applying Wagstaff decomposition analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
BackgroundHuman breast milk, a naturally balanced source of infant nutrition, promotes optimal growth and health when exclusively fed for 6 months. Exclusive breastfeeding reduces common childhood infections, provides protection against some chronic ...

Income Inequality by Gini-Coefficient on Suicide Death in Iran: A Review of National Data

open access: yesIranian Journal of Public Health, 2019
Background: Research in source of inequality and enhance of knowledge can be reducing the inequalities in the coming decades. Therefore, we aimed to ascertain effects of income inequality measured by Gini-coefficient to death from suicide in Iran ...
