An Increasing Misalignment Between Crop Distribution and Environmental Resources Under Climate Change in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Climate change reshapes the spatial alignment between crop production and environmental resources. Using multi‐source data and a crop model, integrated climatic, water, and soil endowments for maize and wheat are quantified and compared with harvest distributions.

Climate Action Impacts on Steelmaking Emissions of Persistent Organic Pollutants Highlight a Gap Between the Paris Agreement and the Stockholm Convention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Emissions of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants (UPOPs) and global warming are two major environmental challenges. But their governance has largely evolved in parallel, leaving the toxicity implications of climate‐driven industrial transitions poorly understood.

Uniform Chernoff and Dvoretzky-Kiefer-Wolfowitz-type inequalities for Markov chains and related processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We observe that the technique of Markov contraction can be used to establish measure concentration for a broad class of non-contracting chains. In particular, geometric ergodicity provides a simple and versatile framework.

Study of Free‐Space Optical Quantum Network: Review and Prospectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Free from the constraints of fiber connections, free‐space quantum network enables longer and more flexible quantum network connections. This review summarizes and comparatively analyzes free‐space quantum network experiments based on ground stations, satellites, and mobile platforms.

Second-order matrix concentration inequalities

open access: yesApplied and Computational Harmonic Analysis, 2018
Matrix concentration inequalities give bounds for the spectral-norm deviation of a random matrix from its expected value. These results have a weak dimensional dependence that is sometimes, but not always, necessary. This paper identifies one of the sources of the dimensional term and exploits this insight to develop sharper matrix concentration ...

Revisiting Target‐Aware de novo Molecular Generation with TarPass: Between Rational Design and Texas Sharpshooter

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TarPass provides a rigorous benchmark for target‐aware de novo molecular generation by jointly evaluating protein‐ligand interactions, molecular plausibility, and drug‐likeness on 18 well‐studied targets. Results show that current models often fail to consistently surpass random baseline in target‐specific enrichment, while post hoc multi‐tier virtual ...

Socioeconomic disparities in Papanicolaou test utilization in Western Iran

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Cervical cancer remains the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer among women, and its impact is particularly significant in women residing in less developed countries. This study aims to assess socioeconomic inequality in using Papanicolaou

Economic Inequality in Presenting Vision in Shahroud, Iran: Two Decomposition Methods [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Health Policy and Management, 2018
Background Visual acuity, like many other health-related problems, does not have an equal distribution in terms of socio-economic factors. We conducted this study to estimate and decompose economic inequality in presenting visual acuity using two ...

Concentration Inequalities for Nonlinear Matroid Intersection [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Twenty-Third Annual ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms, 2012
Summary: In this work we propose new randomized rounding algorithms for matroid intersection and matroid base polytopes. We prove concentration inequalities for polynomial objective functions and constraints that has numerous applications and can be used in approximation algorithms for Minimum quadratic spanning tree, unrelated parallel machines ...

Low‐Power Control Of Resistance Switching Transitions in First‐Order Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Joule losses are a serious concern in modern integrated circuit design. In this regard, minimizing the energy necessary for programming memristors should be handled with care. This manuscript presents an optimal control framework, allowing to derive energy‐efficient programming voltage protocols for resistance switching devices. Following this approach,
