Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Nebulization reflux concentrator [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
A nebulization reflux concentrator for removing trace gas contaminants from a sample gas is described. Sample gas from a gas supply is drawn by a suction source into a vessel.

HTS YBCO Resonator Configuration with Coplanar Optimized Flux Concentrator Strongly Coupled to rf SQUID

open access: yes, 2017
We developed a novel magnetic coupling module formed of a monolayer superconducting flux concentrator, which is integrated with a coplanar resonator strongly coupled to HTS rf-SQUID. Three types of resonators, including a long stripline resonator between

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Towards secure end-to-end data aggregation in AMI through delayed-integrity-verification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The integrity and authenticity of the energy usage data in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is crucial to ensure the correct energy load to facilitate generation, distribution and customer billing.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Theoretical and Experimental Study of an Electrokinetic Micromanipulator for Biological Applications

open access: yesBiomimetics
The ability to control and manipulate biological fluids within microchannels is a fundamental challenge in biological diagnosis and pharmaceutical analyses, particularly when buffers with very high ionic strength are used.

Prototyping Hexagonal Light Concentrators Using High-Reflectance Specular Films for the Large-Sized Telescopes of the Cherenkov Telescope Array

open access: yes, 2017
We have developed a prototype hexagonal light concentrator for the Large-Sized Telescopes of the Cherenkov Telescope Array. To maximize the photodetection efficiency of the focal-plane camera pixels for atmospheric Cherenkov photons and to lower the ...
