Exploring the Impact of the Pumping Process on the Structural Build-up in the Context of 3D Concrete Printing [PDF]

open access: yes
Characterizing the accurate structural build-up of concrete is vital for determining safe vertical construction rates and optimizing design flexibility in 3D concrete printing construction.

Simulation of Strata Failure and Settlement in the Mining Process Using Numerical and Physical Methods

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Coal mining can cause the rupture of the overlying strata, and the energy released by large-scale fractures can therefore induce earthquake disasters, which in turn can cause more secondary disasters.

Additive‐Manufactured, Multifunctional Bioreactor Technology for Dynamic Culture of 3D Bioprinted Tissue Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...

Multimodal Haptic Perception Through Synergistic Nanocomposite Sensor Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Multi‐modal fingertip haptics are advanced through a bioinspired &vertical‐via' electronic skin architecture. A confined PDMS/MWCNT/NiNP nanocomposite, sitting at the percolation threshold, enables tactile, thermal, and magnetic sensing. A unique via‐density gradient and dedicated &Un‐Touch' reference nodes provide robust spatial resolution and signal ...

Elevated temperature concrete curing - using polypropylene fibres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper examines cement hydration when concrete cures at elevated temperatures with and without the addition of Type 1 polypropylene fibres and addresses some of the ambiguities that have arisen from previous research.

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Strength of slender reinforced concrete walls [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
This study is concerned with the behaviour of single span slender reinforced concrete members with depth/span ratios equal to and larger than 1. A series-of deep panels with depth/span ratios between I and 4 was studied experimentally.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.
