Model coupling friction and adhesion for steel-concrete interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computer Applications in Technology 34, 1 (2009) 42-51, 2010
The interface behaviour between steel and concrete, during pull-out tests, is numerically investigated using an interface model coupling adhesion and Coulomb friction. This model, first developed by Raous, Cang\'emi, Cocou and Monerie (RCCM), is based on the adhesion intensity variable, introduced by Fr\'emond, which is a surface damage variable.

ROS‐Responsive Microneedle Patches Enable Peri‐Lacrimal Gland Therapeutic Administration for Long‐Acting Therapy of Sjögren's Syndrome‐Related Dry Eye

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new strategy for constructing smart gel‐based MN patches is developed to overcome the insufficient drug delivery of eye drops to the lacrimal gland. The gel‐based MN patches achieved long‐acting drug release in a ROS‐responsive manner, and separable base in a temperature‐responsive manner.

Analyses on Prestress Loss and Flexural Performance of the Laminated Bamboo Beam Applied with Prestressed BFRP Sheet

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Inspired by the studies about wooden beam applied with prestressed steel plate and bamboo beam strengthened by fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP), this paper aims to explore the applicability of the prestressed basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) sheet to

Ancient concrete works [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
It is commonly believed that the ancient Romans were the first to create and use concrete. This is not true, as we can easily learn from the Latin literature itself. For sure, Romans were able to prepare high-quality hydraulic cements, comparable with the modern Portland cements.

Properties and performance of high strength fibre reinforced concrete by using steel and polypropylene fibres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Many reinforced concrete structures suffer severe degradation due to the effect from freezing and thawing, shrinkage and expansion, aggressive environment, earthquake and drastic increase of live loads.

X‐Linked Gene Dosage and SOX2 Act as Key Roadblocks for Human Germ Cell Specification in Klinefelter Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Klinefelter syndrome‐derived iPSCs provide an excellent model for studying X chromosome inactivation and functions of escapee genes during human primordial germ cell‐like cells differentiation process. Downregulation of three X‐linked genes—IGSF1, CHRDL1, and USP9X—significantly enhances the efficiency of hPGCLCs.

Revealing the Origin and Nature of the Buried Metal‐Substrate Interface Layer in Ta/Sapphire Superconducting Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The origin and nature of metal‐substrate interface layer in Ta/sapphire‐based superconducting films is investigated using synchrotron X‐ray reflectivity and scanning transmission electron microscopy. An intermixing layer, ≈0.65 nm thick containing Al, O, and Ta atoms, is identified at the interface.

Transmission factors and exposure to infections at work and invasive pneumococcal disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 66, Issue 1, Page 65-74, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Working in close contacts with coworkers or the general public may be associated with transmission of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). We investigated whether crowded workplaces, sharing surfaces, and exposure to infections were factors associated with IPD.

Material Thermal Inputs of Iowa Materials for MEPDG, 2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The thermal properties of concrete materials, such as coeffi cient of thermal expansion (CTE), thermal conductivity, and heat capacity, are required by the MEPDG program as the material inputs for pavement design.

The Semi‐Natural Climate Chambers across Latitudes: A Broadly Applicable Husbandry and Experimental System for Terrestrial Ectotherms under Climate Change

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Assessing species' vulnerabilities across geographical gradients is essential for biodiversity conservation under climate change. To address this challenge, the semi‐natural climate chamber across latitudes (SCCAL) is developed, a validated system capable of simulating thermal environments for ecological experiments without reliance on water or ...
