Concrete‐to‐Concrete Friction

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1987
The mechanism of load transfer along unreinforced concrete interfaces by means of friction has been experimentally investigated for several surface roughnesses. The results of the parametric studies investigating the frictional behavior of interfaces under both monotonic and fully reversed large displacements are presented with comments.

CONCRETE AND CONCRETING IN KENYA

2005
This paper attempts to look at the bad side of concrete and concreting in Kenya. This will be done by looking at some scenarios of how concrete is produced and placed in some not so desirable manner. It will be assumed that all are familiar with what good concrete is including methods of handling the same during placing as well as curing and testing.

Concrete Structures

2016
Implementation of Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) procedures in concrete structures seems to be the only way towards a safe and economic infrastructure management. Since concrete structures have reasonably ceased to be regarded as maintenance-free, periodic inspection is deemed necessary.

The Problem of concreteness

The Psychoanalytic Quarterly, 1997
"Concrete" patients manifest resistance to interpretation per se. Their apparently primitive thinking is the result of complex psychodynamics, explicable in terms of the mechanisms of wish fulfillment and a revised theory of fetishism. The general thesis is that an unconscious equation of differentiation with overwhelming tension leads to a global ...

Historic Concrete: From Concrete Repair to Concrete Conservation

2013
Concrete like materials were already applied during the Roman Empire. After the decline of the Roman Empire, a wide scale application of concrete only reappeared in the 19th century. Here lies also the origin of modern (reinforced) concrete. Since then, both concrete application and composition have significantly changed.

Crushed Concrete as Concrete Aggregate

1981
In this discussion “recycling” is used to refer to the beneficial use of a commodity or substance for more than a single cycle of use. Hydraulic-cement concrete, a synthetic sedimentary rock, has been being produced intentionally for beneficial use for over 2000 years.
